Can anyone tell me what side effects you’ve had while using Mirena? Does the insertion of it hurt? And what is this string I’ve heard about that you have to check every month??I have had it for almost 3 years now. I had it inserted 6 weeks after I had my daughter. I don’t know if you have any kids, but I heard it makes a difference in pain from insertion. It really didn’t hurt too much more than a normal pap. I was really crampy for a few days, but is was nothing Midol couldn’t handle. I also had spotting for a few days.
The only side effect I have had was not having real periods anymore. I may have very light spotting every couple of months, but that is it.
The string are from the IUD. It lets you know it is still in place. They aren’t true strings, but more like fishing line material. I had a problem with them poking me and my husband (during sex) when I first got it. They do soften and wind around your cervix after a few months. I found you can use your finger to push them up until then. You can still feel the strings once they soften, they just aren’t as annoying.
Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
